Ease of installation
These locks should be always installed on the inner side, which is the secure side. Most of the setups are mounted on the surface. For the purpose of safety, wires and cables need to be inserted into the door. Although the setup is more or less easy, there are various installation techniques for various types of locks. For instance, a U-bracket installation is likely to vary from the setup of an L-bracket lock.
High magnetic holding force
Mag locks for doors work by using the concept of electromagnetism. When these are energized, a current tends to pass through the electromagnet. The armature plate is attracted with a great force and the door is shut down. Once both plates draw each other, they are actually inseparable unless a switch to break the robust magnetic field is used. The switch works as a valid key. The power of attraction in electromagnets is much higher given the fact that a high flux density is generated within the device by the coil’s magnetic field, due to the presence of the solenoid wire within. This makes the locks safer.
Maglocks for glass doors fall into the category of “fail-secure” and “fail-safe” devices. In “fail-safe” locks, once there is the loss of power from the device, the lock de-energizes automatically and releases – thus making free access possible. However, in “fail-secure” locks, the loss of power is not a cause for worry as it stays intact. In an emergency situation, such as intrusion by burglars and thieves, a fail-secure lock can be your best buddy as it will not open without a key and electricity. In emergencies such as fire hazards, a “fail-safe” lock can be useful. This makes such locks very appropriate for fire exits and emergency exits.
These are sturdy and strong locks that are safer in form and can be operated quickly. Although these are costlier than mechanical locks, the features and capability make the price tag of these devices worthwhile. In the 21st century, the demand for such fail-proof locks is on the rise.
